The Music Lady

My little boy is so tenderhearted and I just love that about him. He is so tenderhearted that he gets tummy aches and is nervous at times, that I don't love so much because I am that way and I know how he feels. Well this morning we were talking about baby VernaAnn and about all the happenings of this coming week. Somehow we got on to the subject of his music concert that was supposed to be in October, but got postponed to November 11, due to illness. He told me that he tried to tell his music teacher that he would not be at the concert because his baby cousin was going to be born and she doesn't have a skull. I thought that was pretty good for a first grader. His music teacher just told him that he needed a note. Isaac got very sad, frustrated and nervous.
Keep in mind I had already told his teacher about everything that was happening with VernaAnn. She has known for sometime now, so when I emailed her to tell her that Isaac would be gone for almost a whole week she was prepared for that. She talked with the principal and they both told me not to worry about anything at all.
I was SO mad that this music teacher had made my 1st grader feel so bad. It made me feel as though she didn't believe him, now why would a 1st grader make something like that up? Also if I were a teacher and I heard something like that I think I would first of all go to the "regular homeroom" teacher and ask what the situation was and maybe even go to the principal. I certainly would not make the child feel bad. Secondly I would have shown the child some compassion and love, I would not have given the response of "I need a note". Some people have no tact.
So I emailed her right away after IZ and I had this conversation. I hope that that is a good enough note, but more than likely it will not be good enough, so I will have to hand write one as well excusing him from the concert. I wanted to write in the email something to the effect that "I didn't know that I had to let the music teacher, gym teacher and the cook know that my child was going to miss school Tuesday -Friday due to a family emergency". I did give this music teacher a piece of my mind though.
On the other hand, Isaac's classroom teacher is the kindest teacher and we have been so blessed to have her this year. Praise the Lord for that.
